From the outside, it seemed as if Ben and Jess Owen had lost everything to alcoholism and addiction-their families, homes, and even a million-dollar business. But, their hope for a better tomorrow was something they never gave up. Finally, one night in a trap house in South Memphis, they made a prayerful promise to God: Get us out of hell TOGETHER, and we'll come back for everyone we left behind.

In We Fight Monsters, Ben and Jess tell their story in raw and honest detail. Chronicling their trajectory from addicted, alcoholic, and homeless to humanitarian warriors with a global reach, their memoir shares how they co-founded two non-profits — Flanders Fields and We Fight Monsters — to deliver life-changing help to veterans, recovering-addicts, ex-cons, and trafficking survivors.

Their work has taken them across the globe. In Afghanistan, they helped rescue veterans during a chaotic US evacuation. Back home, Ben testified before Congress about that experience. From mass funerals in Uvalde, Texas, to mine fields in Ukraine to the fires of Lahaina, they show up for those struggling with loss.

Today, the heart of their mission remains in South Memphis where they're shutting down dope houses and renovating them into sate houses, and creating West Tennessee's largest treatment center.

Ben and Jess Owen are parents to eight (sometimes ten), grandparents to one, humanitarians, fighters of evil, bringers of hope, formerly addicted, alcoholic and homeless. They're also co-founders of two non-profits - We Fight Monsters and Flanders Fields - that help people in some of the worst places in America and the world. Ben loves sharing that Jess can drive, load, and fire a M18 Hellcat, a WWII tank destroyer. He's also the only crackhead ever invited to CIA headquarters.

When they're not in South Memphis helping others rebuild their lives after addiction, Ben and Jess can be found in rural Georgia where they live with their family.

We Fight Monsters is a gut-wrenching, heart-pounding testament to redemption, proving that no one is too far gone to fight their way back.' Darrell Utt, U,S. Army Special Forces (Ret.), bestselling author of 'Grit to Glory:

A Green Beret's Journey from West Virginia to the Streets of Baghdad'

'This story's gritty, real, and hits you with a call to step up. It shows we can tackle our country's problems right in our own backyards by meeting people where they are, not where we think they should be?'

Shawn Ryan, host of The Shawn Ryan Show Podcast, former U.S. Navy SEAL and founder of Vigilance Elite

'As a former Green Beret, I've worked in some of the most hopeless environments on earth... through all of that, never have I seen two people more committed, nor a story more compelling, than that of Ben and Jess Owen in We Fight Monsters,' LtCol (Ret) Scott Mann, New York Times Best Selling Author and Founder of Task Force Pineapple

Ben and Jess have a story that borders on the unbelievable.

Ben and Jess have a story that borders on the unbelievable. Put together in one book, the plot reminds us that if an addict is breathing, God still presents opportunities to buy back an amazing life. Ben recounts how “skills” learned solving by finding drugs with almost no resources led to solving problems for Afghans to American drug addicts. I cannot recommend this book too highly. Especially if you feel someone you care about is stillinside their addiction. There is a way out.

Loved it!

I was first introduced to Ben & Jess on Channel 5 Memphis News last August. I have felt connected to them and have followed them since.
I loved their book, it is well written and it gave me their back stories and how they came to pray their prayer to God that put them on the road to recovery and helping so many others to do the same.
Truly amazing work in South Memphis and places all around the world.
Love them, praying for them!
